Our Family Turkey Day!
photo by Brian Lee Feldman, Jr.We finally had our official family Thanksgiving Day on Saturday. It was a wonderful day for many reasons.
First, the stress was off for me. Brent and Jenn cleaned the house for me on Friday. That is the biggie for me. With my back and neck problems, I just can't clean and cook anymore. It seemed to make it all more manageable.
Second, Jim and I are a team when it comes to the turkey. Jim brined the turkey the night before, I made the dressing and help stuff the turkey. Jim took over and cooks the bird! It was perfect. We had one shaky moment. After two hours of cooking the bird breast down, (That's right. Jim read to get the breast meat done and retain the juiciness you should cook it breast down.) Jim stuck wooden spoons in each end of the turkey and told me to flip it over. I am standing there unprepared, no pot holders, no nothing. All I could think of is HOW! He put it back down and Katie and I got the job done. I am still not quite sure how, but we did.

Third, my boys, my daughter-in-law, my grandson, and my son's fiance were all there. My mom and my brother were there too. My dad, who is 88 years old, won't leave his house anymore. I miss having him there but I can't force him and I understand how he feels. We would go there, but there kitchen is so small and I would have to get up at 4:00 am to get a bird done. So, we sent him a nice big turkey dinner at the end of the day.
At the top of this page you will see a picture of my turkey collection. I gave my camera to my three year old grandson and told him to go take a picture of Sadie's turkeys. He walked right over, looked through the viewfinder, and took the picture. He takes lots of pictures and they almost always are centered perfectly and in focus. I guess he has had his picture taken so many times he just figured it out. What a kid. He also saw a Charlie Brown special on TV with Snoopy playing with marbles. The kid is so involved with marbles. He played with a bowlful of marbles all day. He just loved them. Yes, they went home with him. They were from PooPaws marble collection.
I loved the whole day! I felt like part of a very happy family. Thanks to all of you with very much love, Sadie aka grandma, aka Sally, aka feldmom, aka Mrs. Feldman.
- Unknown had this to say:
Pictures? You have pictures? I don't have any pictures. None were sent to me. Of course, I haven't downloaded mine, so I guess I can't talk.
Great recap of the day, especially the turkey turning situation.
