Picture Day

At most schools picture day is a good day. Not so at our school. We went into picture day with no plan. That's right, 450 kids to photograph and no plan for getting it done. What a mess! I was told by a sixth grade student that I had to "get my kids to the MPR NOW! You are late!" Late? I was never given a schedule. No one was given a schedule. When I got to the MPR I was asked why I came so early! I had to wait 45 minutes. The principal came in and knew I was steaming. She put me ahead of the fourth grade class that was there 'early'. Otherwise, I would have been there for over an hour.

Then I am back in my class actually teaching when a parent comes in and tells me that the office sent her to the MPR with picture money and the photographer sent her to me to get two kids. Seems you have to have your money at the same moment you have your picture taken. Now I have two kids out for another 35 minutes to smile for the camera.

We were getting ready to go home when I discovered two kids forgot to give me their picture money. Yes, the had to go have their pictures retaken.

We wasted a total of 100 minutes of pictures. That is 100 minutes of learning gone just like that. My kids need those 100 minutes to learn place value or expanded notation or verbs or something. Anything! Please just let me have time to teach!

I hate picture day. It really got the best of me!!

I am left with on question. Who is running the asylum?
