A few surprises at school!
Well, we are well underway at school. Things have been progressing nicely with the kids. I have been pretty happy until now. Today, reality sets in. Assessments of my kids on first grade material proves to be a bit too much for them! They just didn't learn enough of the basic skills they needed in first grade. Yikes! It is so scary. Last year our kids hit the ground running. This year, it is another story. I don't think I can take them quite as far as I did last year. Their number sense is low. Parents, count with your children! That is what builds number sense. Count objects! Don't just rote count. That does nothing. Count things!!!!! Please!!!! Teach your kids site words. Even if it is McDonald's it is a word. Show them words. Lots and lots of words. When they come to school not knowing anything it is so much harder to get them to grade level.
Socially, my kids are where they need to be. Academically, we need some work. Actually, we need lots of work. GIVE ME STRENGTH!
